David Petrovich (left), observation program leader for the National Weather Service’s Marquette office, presents a Honored Institution Award to Casey Rose, superintendent of the West Iron County Sewer Authority, in recognition of 50 years of providing weather observations to the Weather Service, a branch of the U.S. Department of Commerce’s National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. The daily temperature and precipitation readings first came from the old Stambaugh sewage treatment plant, and the instruments were moved to the new plant south of Caspian after it was built.
