(Phelps Chamber of Commerce photo) PHELPS, Wis.—The Phelps Chamber of Commerce held its 32nd annual Midwest Musky Classic on Oct. 5-7. Ninety-seven musky anglers participated in the three-day tournament held on Big Sand Lake, Lac Vieux Desert, North Twin and South Twin lakes.
Brian Fons of East Troy, Wis. caught a 46-inch fish on Big Sand Lake Saturday evening to win the tournament. He was awarded $1,000 and will receive a replica of the musky at next year’s tournament. Second place and $400 went to Phelps native Larry Emerson, who caught a 44-inch fish on Big Sand Lake. Third place and $200 went to Randy Van Groll of Freedom, Wis., who caught a 42 1/2-inch musky on Lac Vieux Desert. Immediately following the tournament at the Sunday meal and raffles, Michael Praedel of Hales Corners, Wis., was presented a fish mount replica of the fish he caught to win the 2011 tournament. A replica of the 44-1/2 inch musky caught on North Twin Lake was donated courtesy of Rick Lax Reproductions in Conover. |
