CRYSTAL FALLS—The Forest Park Board of Education approved a number of new staff hirings as it prepares for the upcoming 2012-13 school year.
At the board’s Aug. 27 meeting, action was taken to approve hiring Tamara Ranta as custodian/lunch aide; Kim Payne, teaching second grade; Kurt Anderson, middle school social studies and physical education; Mary Ann Johnson, high school social studies; Karen Nylund, secondary school clerk; and August “A.J.” Murray, high school substitute teacher.
Additionally, the board welcomed back Dwaine “Dobie” Anderson as athletic director, bringing him out of a short retirement. The board accepted, with regret, the resignations of Katie and Frank Bonacorsi and Lee Siler, middle school basketball coach.
Postings will be made for middle school student council advisor, sophomore advisor and middle school basketball coach.
The board approved admission to the district of an out-of-state student, whose family has the intention of moving to Crystal Falls but has had some issues with relocation.
As long as there is financial documentation regarding the relocation, said Policy Committee Chairman Bill St. John, “I’m comfortable with this.”
If the student is not a resident by the October student count day, tuition would be pro-rated from the beginning of school.
The district will be filling a math instructor opening with an intern from Northern Michigan University. Initially, he will be hired as a long-term substitute teacher for 10 weeks, and if the board is satisfied, he will be hired full time.
The district’s website has been redesigned and is online, noted Superintendent Becky Waters.
