CRYSTAL FALLS—Boxing Night at Nylund’s has quickly become an action highlight of the summer season in Iron River, and the seventh annual Nylund’s Invitational is all set to go this Friday, July 6, as part of the Bass Festival.
The amateur boxing show will be held at Nylund’s Foods, at 1 Superior Ave. Expect a capacity crowd of fight fans ready for a fast-paced night of action.
Since it’s amateur boxing, all the fighters wear headgear, and rounds can last as little as one minute, especially for younger fighters. Expect about 15 bouts, most lasting four rounds or less.
There will be two championship fights on the schedule, but details had not been finalized as of late last week.
The doors at Nylund’s will open at 5 p.m., and the action starts at 7:30. Admission is $10 per person ($6 for students, seniors and veterans). Ringside tables, at $125 each, are completely sold out.
Nylund’s Invitational is a fund-raiser for the HAWK (Help a Willing Kid) Foundation. HAWK also will sponsor a bingo night on Thursday, July 5, also at Nylund’s. The doors open at 5 p.m., with bingo from 6 to about 10 p.m.
