MARQUETTE—Some of the seniors who starred for Forest Park and West Iron County’s football teams last fall will play their final high school game this Saturday, June 30, when the U.P. All-Star Football Game is played at the Superior Dome here.
The game kicks off at 3 p.m. Eastern Time.
All players taking part received all-U.P. designation or all-conference honors following their senior season and were invited to take part. They were seniors last fall and have completed their high school eligibility.
Both Forest Park and West Iron will play for the West team Selected from the Trojans are Jacob Siler, Jake Divine, Zach Hautala, Tyler Lovato and Ben Painter.
Wykons chosen for the team are Kiel Atanasoff, Davon Marcell, Caleb Pellizzer, Jimmy Spicer and Joe Varney.
The West team is coached by Doug Hodges, Baraga head coach, with assistants from Baraga, North Central, North Dickinson and Lake Linden-Hubbell.
The U.P. Football All-Star Game is a charity event. Food donated during the event will go to the Beacon House food pantry, and proceeds from the game go to the U.P. Sports Hall of Fame scholarship program.
The game is the final part of a busy week:
--June 25: Check-in and food donation drop-off.
--June 26: Media day and photos.
--June 27: Skills challenge at Superior Dome, 2 to 4 Eastern Time, open to the public; golf challenge for coaches.
--June 28: Bay Cliff Health Camp visit.
--June 29: All-Star Banquet at Northern Michigan University, Bottum University Center, 6 p.m. Eastern Time, with the program at 7. Guest speaker: Eric Beverly, former player for the Detroit Lions and Atlanta Falcons. Limited number of tickets available to public, $20 each.
--June 30: Recruiting camp/combine for players in grades 9 to 12, at Superior Dome, 9 to 11:30 a.m. Eastern Time; U.P. All-Star Game at 3 p.m. Eastern Time, followed by post-game awards. Tickets are $5 in advance and $6 at the door.
