IRON RIVER—Several West Iron athletes have been selected to the all-U.P. boys tennis team, which was named recently by the U.P. coaches’ association.
Austin Waara and Caleb Pellizzer, the Wykons’ first and second singles starters, were both chosen to the first team, and so was the first doubles tandem of Ryan Rogers and Andrew Peterson. The Wykons’ second doubles team of Sean Gustafson and Tyler Capadagli received honorable mention. At the U.P. Finals, played on May 30, Waara earned his third U.P. championship in three years, and Pellizzer and Gustafson-Capadagli were runners-up. WIC Coach Joe Serbentas said the U.P. coaches nominated Waara to the all-state team, which will be selected later by the state tennis coaches group.
