IRON RIVER— In partnership with Bewabic State Park and the Department of Natural Resources, NorthStar Health System (NHS) announces its free, second annual “Women in the Outdoors” event, which will be held at Bewabic State Park on Tuesday, June 19, from 3:30 to 8 p.m.

“NHS wants to empower and encourage women of all ages to get out and enjoy the outdoors!” said organizer Caryn Johnson of NHS.
Activities include events such as kayaking, outdoor cooking, silent sports, outdoor survival, outdoor photography, fishing 101, geo-caching, disc golf and more, said Johnson.
All attendees will be treated to a picnic dinner, health screens and a gift giveaway of a fold-away camp stool.
The 2011 event attracted over 130 women from all over the Western U.P. and is expected to grow this year.
While the event and all of its extras are free, there is a $10 park entry fee unless you participate in Michigan’s Recreation Passport Program.
This passport grants you unlimited access to all of Michigan’s state parks for a year and is an amazing deal, said Johnson.
“To get your passport, please go to www.mighigan.gov/dnr. The daily entry fee for non-Michigan residents is $8.”
Registration is open to the first 200 women and reservations can be made by calling NHS at (906) 265-0477. A rain date of Tuesday, June 26, is scheduled.
