Both Trojan teams get edged at finals PDF Print E-mail

KINGSFORD—Aargh! So close!
 Both Forest Park’s track teams came this close to bringing home a trophy from the Division 3 U.P. Finals track meet, held at Kingsford on June 2. But it wasn’t meant to be.
 Both teams finished in third place. The boys ended up  one point out of second place, and the girls were two points back.
 Forest Park won three events at the U.P. Finals, all by relay teams.


 The Trojan boys finished with 57 team points, one point behind Bark River-Harris (58) and five points ahead of fourth place Rapid River (52). Pickford captured the team championship with 89 points.
 Forest Park won two events, the 3200 and 1600 relays. Mark Hallmann, Jon Curtis, Derek Aberly and Jake Divine ran on the 3200 team, while Alex Takala, Hallmann, Aberly and Divine were the winning 1600 quartet, which set a new U.P. Finals Division 3 record.
 Other Trojan relays finished second and third.
 Individually, Divine had the best finish, taking second in the 800 run—he was just 0.38 off the winning time. Takala took third in the 200 and fourth in the 400, and Jacob Siler tied for fourth in the 100.
 Hallmann finished sixth in the 1600, and Tyler Lovato was sixth in the 110 high hurdles.

 Relays: 3200 relay: 1. FP (Hallmann, Jon Curtis, Derek Aberly, Divine), 8:40.77. 800 relay: 3. FP, 1:37.86. 400 relay: 2. FP, 47.31. 1600 relay: 1. FP (Takala, Hallmann, Divine, Aberly), 3:36.32.
 Field results: none.
 Forest Park’s girls team also claimed third place with 64 team points, two points behind Superior Central (66) but well ahead of fourth place Pickford (34). Brimley claimed the girls Division 3 title with 78 points.
 The Trojan girls won the 800 relay, with the team of Audrey Sholander, Sierra Sholander, Ana Cornelia and Mary Grandahl finishing in 1:53.56.
 In individual events, Audrey Sholander wrapped up her high school career by finishing second in both the 100 high hurdles and 300 low hurdles. Casey Ponchaud took second in the 1600 and third in the 3200.
 Georgie Dohl finished fourth in the 100 highs, and Gina Graff took fourth in discus.
