CRYSTAL FALLS—Forest Park’s boys and girls track teams both finished first at the Division 3 regional tournament held May 17 at Lake Linden.
As usual, the Trojans will be well represented at the U.P. Finals, which take place June 2 at Kingsford High School. The regional meet decided who would qualify for the U.P. Finals.
“It was a great meet,” said boys Coach Erich Ziegler. “Everybody stepped up, and we are very proud of them.”
The boys team finished with 58 team points for first place, while North Dickinson (45) edged Lake Linden (44) for second place. Seven teams took part.
The Trojans finished first in six events. Alex Takala won two of them—the 400 and 200 sprints—and the other wins were by Jacob Siler (100), Jake Divine (800) and the 3200 and 1600 relay teams.
The boys team qualified nine individuals in 15 events, along with all four relay teams. Takala, Siler, Divine, Tyler Lovato and Mark Hallmann qualified in two individual events.
Brett Hietala will be part of three relay teams that will run at the U.P. Finals, and Siler, Takala, Divine and Derek Aberly will each run in two relays—all four will run in four events.

The Lady Trojans scored 54 team points to claim first place over North Dickinson (40.5) and Lake Linden (38.5). Seven teams took part.
Forest Park won seven firsts at Lake Linden. Audrey Sholander was a double winner, earning first in both hurdles events. Casey Ponchaud won the 3200 run, Gina Graff won in discus, and three relay teams earned first place.
Nine girls qualified in 14 events. Sholander, Ponchaud, Graff, Ana Cornelia and Adel Isaacson all qualified in two events.
Sierra Sholander and Mary Grandahl both will run in three relays at the U.P. Finals, and Audrey Sholander, Cornelia and Becca McCole will run in two.
