ESCANABA—Reconstruction of over a half-mile of U.S. 2 (Adams Street), from Ninth Avenue to River Avenue, and one block of M-189 (Fourth Avenue), from Genesee Street to U.S. 2, in the city of Iron River got under way Monday, April 23. During construction, the city is upgrading portions of its water main and sanitary sewer system. Phone lines, a gas main, power poles and street lighting also will be upgraded. U.S. 2 (Adams Street) traffic will be detoured within the city, with westbound U.S. 2 traffic using Cayuga Street, and eastbound U.S. 2  traffic using Genesee and Maple streets.

Expect some parking restrictions on the detour route. Construction of U.S. 2 will be phased to allow alternating segments of U.S. 2 to be open to traffic. Motorists and residents are reminded that all businesses along Adams Street will remain open throughout construction, and business access will be maintained at all times. Parking will be available along side streets in addition to off-street parking. The estimated completion date is Friday, Oct. 19.
