CRYSTAL FALLS—“Maxine Hookinson has outdone herself again this year with the creation of another beautiful, handmade quilt, which has been donated for the seventh annual Iron County Medical Care Facility Auxiliary quilt raffle,” said organizers.
Tickets can be purchased for $1 at the main Iron County Medical Care Facility office or Diversional Therapy Department through the annual auxiliary Strawberry Social, which will be held July 6.
The quilt is on display at the Iron County Medical Care Facility at the end of Birch Drive.
Maxine was inspired by nature for this year’s quilt, she said.
“I love flowers, and this year for the quilt I used a traditional pattern infused with flowers and vibrant colors.”
It’s more than just her love for quilting that inspires her to make her beautiful creation each year, she said.
“I thoroughly enjoy quilting, and have special connection to doing a quilt for the auxiliary fund raiser.
“I do it in memory of my mom, who lived at the facility for a couple of years, and several of my family members, who have lived at the facility as well.
“It’s my way of giving a ‘thank you’ back to the facility and the caregivers who took such good care of my family. It’s something I do to give back.”
All proceeds are given directly back to the residents of the facility through many auxiliary activities throughout the year and through personalized resident birthday gifts.
