CRYSTAL FALLS—The board of directors of Fortune Lake Lutheran Camp (FLLC) is pleased to announce the arrival of a new on-site camp director.
Pastor Tracy Polzin began her position Feb. 1.  She will lead her first junior high youth retreat March 2-3.
“Pastor Tracy can draw from a wealth of unique ministry situations that will enrich the experience of retreaters and summer campers at FLLC,” said Rev. Bill Jacobson, board chair and pastor of All Saints Lutheran Church in Wakefield.

“We are excited to have Pastor Tracy join the FLLC family, the Iron-Dickinson County communities, and the Northern Great Lakes Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. She will officially be installed at the Synod Assembly in May at Messiah Lutheran, Marquette.” said Jacobson.
A graduate of Concordia College in Moorhead, Minn., and Luther Seminary in St. Paul, Minn., for the past eight years, Polzin served Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, an inner city parish in Racine, Wis.
“During my time as pastor, one of my greatest joys has been to witness the transformation that happens while taking kids to camp and retreats,” said Polzin.
“There is something amazing that happens when you get kids out of their home element and immerse them into a caring camping community. I have seen them try things they would have never imagined, open to new friendships and experience God come alive in new ways.”
Polzin had previous outdoor ministry experience at Lake Wapogasset Lutheran Bible Camp, which serves the Twin Cities and northwest Wisconsin.
First trained as a summer cabin counselor while working towards a degree in elementary education, she quickly advanced to leadership positions.
She was also pastor in residence at Wilderness Canoe Base, a high adventure site bordering the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness.
Extending her international horizons, Polzin toured the U.S. and West Africa with a Lutheran Youth Encounter music ministry team and served her seminary internship in an American Lutheran Church in Berlin, Germany.
“I am thrilled to be part of Fortune Lake’s next chapter,” she said. “It is wonderful to get to experience this place of grace; the location is amazing and the people are even better!
“Whether you have been coming to Fortune Lake for generations or have driven by the sign and wondered what was down Bible Camp Road, come out and visit,” urged the new camp director.   “We have all kinds of programs planned for the months to come. All are welcome!”
Polzin’s husband, Mike, is a computer programmer for a banking services company. The couple resides at camp with their four-year-old daughter, Lillianna.
Fortune Lake Lutheran Camp is located three miles west of Crystal Falls on U.S. 2.
