Following the X Games, Nick says, “X-Games was a blast this year. I got to spend a lot of time with my family and sponsors. The course was a lot tamer then it was last year so that made it a lot less tech and everyone was a lot closer on the course.
“The draft was a big thing this year and it was hard ‘cause it was hard to stay in front and even harder when behind because if you couldn’t pass. It was a bit sketchy ‘cause you would be going faster than the people in front of you. I had the fourth fastest time trial.
“Saturday was the finals and I was all ready and excited to race. My first heat I found myself in third, and when I decided to make my pass, I started to go high in turn 1 right as the two guys in front of me tied up and slammed almost taking me out. I want that heat and went back to the top letting Andy Buckley prep the board so it would rip again. I rode great in the semi finals and one that heat as well. Then I went on to the finals and it was a battle the entire way.
“It got real dark, the speeds got faster and it was unpredictable the entire way. I almost flew off course but saved it and after one more mistake started killing it again making a pass in the third to last corner. Right behind the leaders, I started drafting and all of the sudden the two leaders piled up and myself and Nate Holland went around with me finishing second and Nate in first. Third was captured by my good friend Jayson Hale making it a USA Sweep.
“So stoked for the finish and so thankful for my sponsors; Loctite, Rockstar, Bern, Ski Brule, Traxxas, Metal Mulisha, Redbelly Board-shop, and McDavid!”
