Early in the afternoon during the Hillclimb event in Caspian, rider Derek Zimney of Minnesota took a spill during his race. His tether device, which is designed to shut the snowmobile off when the operator falls from the machine, failed due to becoming detached from the operator. The unmanned machine sped into the pit area, injuring two people. Local emergency service personnel were on site. The snowmobile stopped when it ran into a parked pickup truck.
