IRON RIVER—On Friday, Jan. 7, the first winning raffle name was drawn at the Iron County Chamber of Commerce.
Ron Simmons of Iron River won $100 as the first winner of 45th anniversary Limited Edition U.P. Championship Rodeo Calendar raffle.
The raffle was initiated by the U.P. Championship Rodeo board to raise monies to pay off past debts and offset initial expense for the production of the rodeo.
The calendar was designed with photos from past U.P. Championship Rodeos since it was first held in Iron River in 1968. Many community faces were featured in the calendar as well as local rodeo history.
Each raffle calendar cost $100 with the raffle ticket going into a year-long drawing for 2012. Each Friday, a $100 winner will be drawn and on the last Friday of each month, a $500 winner will be announced.
After a ticket is drawn, it is returned to the drawing, making it possible for winnings up to $10,000. Only 400 raffle calendars were printed, and at present, over 300 have been sold.
The first winning ticket was drawn by top calendar seller Bob Gallup of Beechwood, who sold nearly 100 calendars. Announcing the weekly winners on WIKB’s Telephone Time program will be Rodeo Market Daze Chairperson Sarah Lambert. A monthly list of winners will be posted in the Iron County Reporter.
Calendars are still available at the Iron County Chamber of Commerce office or can be ordered on www.uprodeo.com.
Dates for the 45th U.P. Championship Rodeo and Rodeo Daze Weekend have been set for Aug. 3-5 with a rodeo concert planned as well as the Wild West Parade, Market Daze, Windsor Rodeo Run, many other community events and three PRCA rodeo performances.
