IRON RIVER—Iron County (MI) Genealogical Society will meet Thursday, Jan. 5, at 1 p.m. in the J. Patrick White Conference Room at the West Iron District Library.
Dale Safford, West Iron County’s “cemetery lady,” will present a program on  FindAGrave (www.findagrave.com), one of the most valuable online resources for genealogists. The website is a database of burials all across the United States as well as in many other countries and includes over 73 million entries.

“With names of buried people submitted totally by volunteers, it is possible that individuals in your family tree might be entered,” said a spokesperson.
“Birth and death dates, which may have been previously unknown, as well as possible biographical information and photos of the headstone of the person, are given. Viewing the memorials and entering your own information will be shown by Dale Safford, who has entered over 16,000 names of people buried locally.”
People who have a laptop computer are encouraged to bring one to allow working on their own during the presentation.
Meetings are open to all individuals and are held in the J. Patrick White Conference Room of the West Iron District Library.
