It’s no earth-shaking news that surfing through cable channels yields a glut of reality shows. Cable and satellite stations hemorrhage reality-TV in every subject, location and situation.
The programs, which I can’t stomach for more than the time it takes to punch the remote, are the reality shows that depict glitzy groups of women and girls backstabbing, shouting and, in some instances, physically attacking one another. Whether its “mob wives,” families confronting parental hoarders, teen moms, desperate women—they’re in our faces, behaving badly and, I wondered, influencing young female viewers.
