The opinions expressed about the reconstruction of Lay/Washington Avenue in Iron River is becoming as divided as, well, the street will be once the project is completed.
 There is no doubt “Stambaugh Hill” could use some road repair, as could the intersecting streets, from Amber to Evergreen. The streetscape concept for the reconstruction grew from the Cool Cities blueprint for the consolidated downtown areas of Genesee Street and Washington Avenue, an initiative that was started in 2005 with the goal of attracting businesses “up the hill.”
