CRYSTAL FALLS – The Crystal Theatre’s Gem of a Season will take a detour to bluegrass music with the celebrated sextet Detour on Sunday, July 14, at 2 p.m.
Touted by the Lansing State Journal as “perhaps the best bluegrass band Michigan has yet produced,” Detour performs heartfelt originals, tight harmonies and high-steppin’ instrumentals.
The band’s lineup features the soaring lead vocals of Missy Armstrong and the championship fiddling of Peter Knupfer. With Jack Grant on bass, Scott Zylstra on guitar, Jeff Rose on mandolin and Kevin Gaugier on banjo, the result is “a bluegrass joyride.”
Detour has received great critical acclaim at numerous concerts and festivals, including the Great Lakes Folk Festival, Virginia Public Television’s “Song of the Mountains” concert series and Interlochen Center for the Arts. One critic says, “For the total bluegrass package, take this Detour!”
Advanced tickets for Detour may be purchased for $15 at Ben Franklin’s in Crystal Falls; Central Arts and Gifts and the Iron County Chamber Office in Iron River; Steamin’ Joe’s in Florence; and The Music Tree in Iron Mountain. Tickets may also be purchased online at thecrystaltheatre.org or by phoning 367-4072. Admission at the door is $18 for adults and $5 for youths under 18.
