WIC girls take first indoors PDF Print E-mail

EAGLE RIVER—In its only indoor meet this year, West Iron’s girls track team finished first in the team standings at the Northland Pines Indoor Invitational, held at the fieldhouse here March 26.
The Wykons now await the start of their outdoor season on April 16—or whenever conditions permit.
West Iron’s boys took fifth place at Northland Pines.
Girls: The Wykon girls finished with 98 team points, outdistancing second place Kingsford (84). The host school was third at 77.5. Five schools took part.
Both West Iron wins were in field events: Emilie Christensen won high jump, clearing 4 feet, 6 inches, and Megan Miatech breezed to first in shot put with a throw of 34 feet, 7¾ inches.
The Wykon girls had eight second places and seven thirds. Christensen was second in triple jump (an event not run in Michigan) and third in shot put. Freshman Ally Jo Polich was second in 200 low hurdles and third in 55 high hurdles. Cassi Pellizzer was second in the 400, third in high jump. Carli Johnson was second in the 200, fourth in the 55.
Other seconds went to Ashley Capadagli (pole vault), Rebekah Serbinski (1600), Kylee Erickson (800) and the 3200 relay team.
Other thirds were by Tori Harris-Hoogenboom (3200), Alyssa Davis (pole vault) and the 800 and 1600 relays.

Relays: 3200 relay: 2. WIC (Erickson, Harris-Hoogenboom, Lambert, Harley Kinney), 10:59.77. 800 relay: 3. WIC (Christensen, Alyssa Davis, Cassandra Harrington, Johnson), 2:01.64. 1600 relay: 3. WIC (Davis, Erickson, Elizabeth Pellizzer, C.Pellizzer), 4:48.38.
Field: High jump: 1. Christensen, 4-6; 3. C.Pellizzer, 4-4. Pole vault: 2. Ashley Capadagli, 7-0; 3. Davis, 6-6. Triple jump: 2. Christensen, 29-5.5. Shot put: 1. Megan Miatech, 34-7.75; 3. Christensen, 27-5.75.
Boys: The Wykon boys opened their season by claiming fifth place in a six-team field with 46 points. Northland Pines won with 158, and Ashland was second at 119.
No Wykons won events, but there were three runners-up: Tyler Stafford in the 55-meter dash, Chasz Jonet in shot put and the 1600 relay (Joe Pisoni, Colton Pangrazzi, Brandon Olson and Ryan Rogers).
Stafford was third in long jump (clearing 20 feet, 2 inches), and Pangrazzi claimed fourth in the 400.

Relays: 800 relay: 5. WIC (Andrew Peterson, Stafford, Ryan Rogers, Jake Polich). 1600 relay: 2. WIC (Joe Pisoni, Pangrazzi, Brandon Olson, Ryan Rogers), 3:56.62.
Field: High jump, 4 (T) Rogers, 5-6. Long jump: 3. Stafford, 20-2. Shot put: 2. Chasz Jonet, 43-0; 6. Peterson.
Coming up: The Wykons’ season will resume after the snow finally melts. Their next meets are at Minocqua Lakeland (April 16), Norway (April 18) and Niagara (April 25).
