Hoops schedule ready to resume - Wednesday, January 6, 2010
IRON COUNTY—After two quiet weeks, the West Iron County and Forest Park boys and girls high school basketball teams will resume their seasons early this week.
Hope they enjoyed the break. The action now will be nearly continuous, with all four teams usually playing twice a week in January and February.
The teams continued practices during the holiday break, preparing for the final two months of the season.
West Iron County’s boys team returned to action at North Dickinson on Jan. 4, and they will travel to Bessemer on Jan. 7. The Wykons’ blue road uniforms will get plenty of time off after that—starting Jan. 12, West Iron [;ays eight of its next nine at home.
Florence will visit on Jan. 12, followed by Calumet, Ironwood and Forest Park. The Wykons travel to Hancock Jan. 26 and then return for home games against Bessemer, Iron Mountain, Houghton and Kingsford.
The Wykon boys are 2-2 so far this season and 1-1 in the West Pac Conference.
Forest Park’s boys ended their break with a Jan. 4 game at Watersmeet. They host Florence on Jan. 7 and Kingsford on Jan. 12 and then go back on the road to Bark River-Harris on Jan. 18 and to West Iron on Jan. 21.
The Trojans have a 4-1 record overall and are 3-0 in the Skyline Conference.
Both girls teams resume their seasons on the road before facing each other this Friday, Jan. 8.
West Iron will be at Hancock on Jan. 5 and return home Jan. 8 to host Forest Park—their first showdown this season. Next week, the Wykons visit Bessemer on Jan. 12 and host Florence on Jan. 14.
The Wykon girls are 1-4 overall and 1-2 in the West Pac standings.
Forest Park’s girls also return to action Jan. 5, starting a four-game road trip, their longest of the season. They start by making the long ride to Rapid River before the cross-county trip to West Iron on Jan. 8.
Next week, the Lady Trojans visit Bark River-Harris on Jan. 12, and then they are off until a Jan. 19 game at North Dickinson. The FP girls don’t play at home until they tip off against North Central on Jan. 22.
The Lady Trojans enter this week with a 4-2 overall record, 3-1 in the Skyline Conference.
