Trojans dominate Skyline-CUP meet - Wednesday, May 14, 2008

CHIACUGON LAKE—Forest Park’s golf teams swept virtually all the top honors during the Skyline/Central U.P. Conference tournament, held May 9 at the George Young Recreational Complex.

The Trojans won both team titles and took five of the top six individual places. They also had a major presence on the all-conference team.

In the boys division, Forest Park swept away with a 54-stroke win. The team total of 330 was miles ahead of second place Bark River-Harris (384). Rapid River (393) took third.

Erik Peterson won medalist honors with an 18-hole score of 80, one stroke ahead of teammate Tyler Fittante (81) and two ahead of Drew Gussert (82).

FP’s other scores were Travis Fittante (87) and Kevin Schiavo (89). Travis Fittante was fourth overall, and Schiavo tied for fifth with Big Bay de Noc’s Dustin Barbeau—the only other golfer to break 90 at the tourney.

In the girls tourney, Forest Park compiled a team team total of 235, 23 strokes ahead of second place Big Bay (258). Mid Peninsula (288) was third.

FP’s Kristi West was medalist with a nine-hole score of 50. Mid Pen’s Kelly Hillman was second at 51, and the Trojans’ Kimberly Beck finished third at 52. Two Big Bay girls also broke 50: Christy Kalata (55) and Emily Lucas (56).

Forest Park’s other scores were Amanda Process at 64, Brooke Dishaw at 69 and Hillary Roose at 74.

Five Trojan boys were selected to the Skyline-CUP all-conference team. They were Peterson, Tyler and Travis Fittante, Gussert and Schiavo.

Four FP girls were selected to that squad: West, Beck, Process and Dishaw.

• The Trojans boys tuned up for the George Young (separate story) and Skyline-CUP tournaments by earning a big win at the North Central boys invitational at the Highland Golf Club near Escanaba.

Peterson was medalist with an 18-hole score of 79, Gussert was second with 81, and Tyler Fittante claimed third at 84.

The Trojans ended with a score of 337—35 strokes ahead of second place Bark River-Harris (372). Stephenson (396) was third.

No girls results were available.

• Forest Park’s team saves gas this week by hosting three events this week. They greeted L’Anse at the Crystal View course on May 12; face Norway at George Young on May 14; and play Westwood back at Crystal View on May 19.
