County’s taxable values see increase - Wednesday, May 7, 2008

CRYSTAL FALLS—During the April 22 Iron County Board of Commissioners’s meeting, Equalization Director Joan Mussatto presented her annual report.

The report shows the state equalized value is $695,770,707, an increase of 9.7 percent. The tentative taxable value increased by 5.9 percent, to $431,431,192.

By taxing unit, Bates Township has a state equalized value (SEV) of $75,822,209 and a taxable value (TV) of $41,259,692. Crystal Falls Township has a SEV of $131,853,600 and a TV of $88,671,082.

Hematite Township has a SEV of $23,800,000 and a TV of $13,987,488. Iron River Township has a SEV of $79,352,800 and a TV of $50,389,408.

Mansfield Township has a SEV of $32,786,637 and a TV of $20,171,649. Mastodon Township has a SEV of $98,375,057 and a TV of $58,884,028.

Stambaugh Township has a SEV of $147,625,675 and a TV of $69,813,607. Caspian has a SEV of $14,561,587 and a TV of $12,423,966.

Crystal Falls has a SEV of $26,161,124 and a TV of $21,761,967. Gaastra has a SEV of $5,082,178 and a TV of $3,693,507. Iron River has a SEV of $60,349,840 and a TV of $50,374,798.

By district, the total Forest Park School District SEV is $312,976,418 and TV is $203,476,214. West Iron County School District’s SEV is $382,794,289 and TV is $227,954,978.

Mussatto said the county continues to see the gap widen between the assessed and taxable values. By adopting the report, the valuations will distribute the burden of financing county services among the 11 taxing units in a fair manner, she explained. The county board approved the report as presented.
